About Us
John McCavitt, PhD, Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, is a widely published historian. Besides contributing articles to a variety of journals and collections of essays, he is the author of Sir Arthur Chichester, Lord Deputy of Ireland, 1605- 16 (Belfast, 1998) and The Flight of the Earls (Dublin, 2002) and the The Flight of the Earls: An Illustrated History (2007). He has featured in a wide range of radio and tv programmes, including '1606, the Dawn of the Ulster Scots'. A consultant contributor to the BBC Plantation of Ulster website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/war/plantation/ he was Historical advisor to the three part BBC televison series on The Flight of The Earls and Historical adviser to the Ulster Scots Agency for the Hamilton and Montgommery 400th Anniversary commemoration in 2006.
He is currently acting as Historical Consultant to a Flight of the Earls and Plantation of Ulster project at Castle Hill Dungannon. Recently appointed a member of the Ministerial Advisory Group on the Ulster Scots Academy in 2011, while also currently co-authoring a biography of Major General Robert Ross with Chris George from Baltimore.
A resident of Rostrevor, Co.Down, he has written and narrated 'The Flight of the Earls in Story and Song' CD, including the lyrics of several of the songs. He is also author of an international award-winning multimedia website: www.theflightoftheearls.net and his website on Major General Robert Ross, www.themanwhocapturedwashington.com, has been permanently archived by the British Library in London.
